On Sunday 8th March, 2015 the BBC introduces a brand new period drama and new adaptation of Poldark. Based on fictional stories by Winston Graham, the original series in the 1970’s had 15 million viewers hooked, and went on to be shown in 40 countries around the world.

The story of this swashbuckling 18th century Cornish drama begins with the Ross Poldark, a British Army officer, returning home to Cornwall from the American Revolutionary War.  Heartbroken at the news that his fiancée, Elizabeth Chynoweth, is about to marry his cousin, Francis Poldark, having believed him to be dead, Ross also learns of his father’s death and the loss of the family wealth. In an attempt to restore his fortunes Ross reopens one of the family’s tin mines. After several years he marries Demelza, his servant girl, and is gradually reconciled to the loss of Elizabeth’s love. By then, Elizabeth becomes a widow and marries George Warleggan, Ross’s arch-enemy.

However racy and compelling the script, or handsome and beautiful the actors, it is the wild and stunning Cornish landscape that will probably steal the show. We are promised shots of our wonderful Cornish county in awe inspiring magnificence with wonderful rolling heaths, waves crashing to the shore and dramatic cliff top scenery. All the ingredients for yet another brilliant BBC period drama.
